CELEBRATION OF THE NEW APPOINTMENT
     OF PASTOR CLYNTON EASLEY TO
FRUITLAND UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Leader: (to congregation):
Dear friends, today we welcome Clynton Easley who has been appointed to serve as our pastor. We believe that he is well qualified and has been prayerfully appointed by our bishop, Elaine Stanovsky.

Leader: (to pastor)
Clynton, you have been sent to live among us as a bearer of the Word of God; a minister of the Sacraments; and a sustainer of the love, order, and discipleship of the peopleof God.

Pastor: Today I reaffirm this commitment in the presence of this congregation.

Leader: (to congregation)
Brothers and sisters in Christ, as a people committed to participate in the ministries of the church by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service, will you who celebrate this
new beginning, support and uphold Pastor Clynton in these ministries?

Congregation:
We affirm our commitment to support you with our prayers, presence, gifts, and service.

Join in singing “Blessed Be the Name” UM Hymnal #63
Blessed be the name!
Blessed be the name!
Blessed be the name of the Lord! (repeat)

Leader: Let us pray.
Eternal God, strengthen and sustain us in our ministries together, with Clynton Easley as our pastor. Give him and us patience, courage, and wisdom so to care for one another and challenge one another that together we may follow Jesus Christ, living together in love, and offering our gifts and talents in your service; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Presenters to Pastor:
Clynton, accept this Bible, and be among us as one who proclaims the Word. Amen

Clynton, take this water, and baptize new Christians in this place. Amen

Clynton, take this bread and cup, and keep us in communion with Christ and his Church. Amen

Pastor: Let us pray,
Congregation:
Lord God, bless the ministries of your Church.
We thank you for the variety of gifts you have bestowed upon
us. Draw us together in one Spirit, that each of us may use our
differing gifts as members of one body. May your Word be
proclaimed with faithfulness, may we be doers of your Word and
not hearers only, and may we be one in service to others, in the
name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

(Pastor may kneel, leaders lay hands on his head)
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine
upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his
countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen

Pastor: The peace of the Lord be always with you.

Congregation: And also with you.

Hymn “Sweet, Sweet Spirit” UM Hymnal #334
There's a sweet sweet spirit in this place
And I know that it's the spirit of the Lord.

And I know that it's the presence of the Lord.

Sweet heavenly dove
Stay right here with us
Filling us with your love.
And for all these blessings
We lift our hearts in praise
Without a doubt we'll know

 This is my song O God of all the nations
A song of peace for lands afar and mine
This is my home the country where my heart is
Here are my hopes my dreams my holy shrine
But other hearts in other lands are beating
With hopes and dreams as true and high as mine

My country's skies are bluer than the ocean
And sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine
But other lands have sunlight too and clover
And skies are everywhere as blue as mine
O hear my song Thou God of all nations
A song of peace for their land and for mine

This is my prayer O Lord of all earth's kingdoms
Thy kingdom come on earth Thy will be done
Let Christ be lifted up till all shall serve Him
And hearts united learn to live as one
O hear my prayer Thou God of all nations
Myself I give Thee let Thy will be done

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen. Amen.

Responsive Reading Psalm 100

Leader: Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
People: Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Leader: Know that the Lord is God.
People: It is he who made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
People: give thanks to him and praise his name.
All: For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Unison Invocation:
Lord God, in this short time together,
open our ears and our eyes to see your vision for this place
and our part within it. Teach us, hear our prayers and enable
us for service wherever you might take us.
To your praise and glory. Amen.

Hymn “When We All Get to Heaven” UM Hymnal #701
Sing the wondrous love of Jesus;
sing his mercy and his grace.
In the mansions bright and blessed
he'll prepare for us a place.

Refrain:
When we all get to heaven,
what a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
we'll sing and shout the victory!

While we walk the pilgrim pathway,
clouds will overspread the sky;
but when traveling days are over,
not a shadow, not a sigh.
(Refrain)

Let us then be true and faithful,
trusting, serving every day;
just one glimpse of him in glory
will the toils of life repay.
(Refrain)

Onward to the prize before us!
Soon his beauty we'll behold;
soon the pearly gates will open;
we shall tread the streets of gold.
(Refrain)

Hymn “Sweet Hour of Prayer” UM Hymnal #496 (Verses 1,3)
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father's throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter's snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I'll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Interlude

Call to Worship

*Calling Song “How Majestic is Your Name” TFWS #2022
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.
O Lord, we praise your name.
O Lord, we magnify your name:
Prince of Peace, mighty God;
O Lord God Almighty.

Responsive Reading from Psalm 8

Leader: Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens.
People: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and stars, which you have put in place, what are mere mortals that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
Leader: You have made them a little lower than yourself and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
People: You put everything under their feet: flocks and herds, the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
All: Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Unison Invocation
Heavenly Father please remind us this morning of your majesty, the creation, and your amazing grace. Forgive us for the times this week when we have been distracted and overwhelmed by reports of violence and injustice. Use this time to return us to people who see beauty and love
in this scarred world. Help us sense the incredible scope of your concern and care that is so profoundly shown in Jesus, through whom we pray. Amen.

Hymn of Petition “Shine, Jesus, Shine” TFWS #2173
Refrain:
Shine Jesus shine,
fill this land with the Father’s glory,
blaze, Spirit, blaze,
set our hearts on fire;
flow, river, flow,
flood the nations with grace and mercy,
send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light.

Lord, the light of your love is shining
in the midst of the darkness shining;
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us,
set us free by the truth you now bring us.
Shine on me, shine on me.

Prayer Hymn “Just As I Am, Without One Plea” UMH #357 (verses 1, 3, 5)
Just as I am, without one plea,
but that thy blood was shed for me,
and that thou bidst me come to thee,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, though tossed about
with many a conflict, many a doubt,
fightings and fears within, without,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Just as I am, thou wilt receive,
wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;
because thy promise I believe,
O Lamb of God, I come, I come.

Message “Let Me Show You” John 13: 1-17

The Communion Service
The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Communion Song “Santo, Santo, Santo” TFWS #2007

Holy, holy, holy,
my heart, my heart adores you!
My heart knows how to say to you;
You are holy, Lord!

Santo, santo, santo,
mi corazon te adora!
Mi corazon te sabe decir;
Santo entres, Dios!

Prayer of Confession and Pardon
Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo.
Forgive what our lips tremble to name, and what our hearts can no longer bear.
Through the cross, set us free from a past that we cannot change.
Through the resurrection, open to us a future in which we can be changed.
Grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image,
through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.

Hear the good news;
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. That proves God’s love for us.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.
Thanks be to God!

Bread and Cup
The Lord be with you
And also with you.
Let us give thanks using the words Jesus gave us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be they name.
Thy kingdom come, they will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. AMEN.

Sending Hymn “The Trees of the Field” TFWS #2279

You shall go out with joy
And be led forth with peace
The mountains and the hills
Will break forth before you
There'll be shouts of joy
And all the trees of the field
Will clap, will clap their hands

And all the trees of the field
Will clap their hands
The trees of the field
Will clap their hands
The trees of the field
Will clap their hands
While you go out with joy

Unison Benediction*
May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you
wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
