Prelude:

Welcome and Announcements

Interlude:

Welcoming the Light of Christ and inviting the neighborhood to worship.

*Call to Worship
Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Calling Song “More Like You” TFWS #2167
More like you, Jesus, more like you.
Fill my heart with your desire to make me more like you.
More like you, Jesus more like you.
Touch my lips with holy fire and make me more like you.

Lord, you are my mercy. Lord, you are my grace.
All my deepest sins have forever been erased.
Draw me in your presence. Lead me in your ways.
I long to bring you glory in righteousness and praise.

Responsive Reading from Psalm 1

Leader: Happy are those who will not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit with scoffers.
People: Happy are those who delight in the law of the Lord, and meditate on his law day and night.
All: They are like trees planted by streams of water.

Unison Invocation
Now, Heavenly Father, calm us into a peace that heals and shapes our longings, questions, wounds, and passions into a more holy life that looks like Jesus in whose name we pray. Amen

Hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” UMH #133
What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
leaning on the everlasting arms;
what a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
leaning on the everlasting arms.

Refrain:
Leaning, leaning, safe and secure from all alarms,
leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
leaning on the everlasting arms;
O how bright the path grows from day to day,
leaning on the everlasting arms.
(Repeat Refrain)

What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
leaning on the everlasting arms
(Repeat Refrain)

Old Testament Reading - Proverbs 31:30-31
Gospel Reading - Mark 9:30-37

 God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks be to God!

Prayers of the People with the Lord’s Prayer
Offertory with Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Message  “Show Me”  James 3:13-18

Commitment Hymn “God of Grace and God of Glory” UMH #577

God of grace and God of glory,
on thy people pour thy power;
crown thine ancient church’s story;
ring her bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
for the facing of this hour, (of this hour)
for the facing of this hour.

Cure thy children’s warring madness,
bend our pride to thy control;
shame our wanton, selfish gladness,
free our hearts to work and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
or the living of these days, (of these days)
for the living of these days.

Save us from weak resignation
to the evils we deplore;
let the search for thy salvation
be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
serving thee whom we adore (we adore)
serving thee whom we adore.

Closing Song “Teresa’s Prayer”
Christ be in my mind and in my thinking,
Christ be in my eyes, in everything I see,
Christ be in my mouth, in every word I speak,
Christ be in my heart and in my loving,
Christ be in my life, each moment that I live.

Unison Benediction
May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you
wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
