Fruitland United Methodist Church
August 22, 2021 – 9:00 A.M. (Held in the Fruitland City Park under the shelter that is closest to the Post Office and restrooms. Please bring a chair and, if you wish, a cup of coffee.) Prelude: Welcome and Announcements Interlude: Welcoming the Light of Christ and inviting the neighborhood to worship. *CALL TO WORSHIP Calling Chorus “O Come, All Ye Faithful” UMH #234 (chorus only) O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord. For he alone is worthy. For he alone is worthy, For he alone is worthy. Christ the Lord. Responsive Reading Psalm 84:1 and 10-12 Leader: How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty. People: A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of the Lord than live the “good life” in the homes of the wicked. Leader: For the Lord God is our light and protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good thing will he withhold from those who do what is right. All: O Lord Almighty, happy are those who trust in you. Unison Invocation Heavenly Father, gratitude comes hard to us. Boasting and blaming are easier, yet me trust that you know such things are products of our insecurities, fears, and ambitions. But now, in Your presence, in this place, with these other followers of Jesus, we are softened and find clarity and praise more compatible with what we truly believe. So on this day we humbly pause to praise you that when we gather in the name of Jesus Christ you are right here to disturb and renew us. Through Christ we pray. Amen. Hymn “Blessed Assurance” UMH #369 v. 1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory devine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. Chorus This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long; This is my story this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. Blessing of Backpacks: All students are encouraged to come forward. Old Testament Reading - Joshua 24:1 and 14-18 Gospel Reading John 6:60-69 God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks be to God! Congregational Prayer and Lord’s Prayer Offering Meditation and Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise him all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly hosts; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Sermon “One More Thing...or Two” Galatians 5:26-6:10 Postlude (Please be seated) Closing Song “The Trees of the Field” TFWS #2279 You shall go out with joy - and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills will break forth before you; there’ll be shouts of joy, and all the trees of the field will clap, will clap their hands. And all the trees of the field will clap their hands, the trees of the field will clap their hands, the trees of the field will clap their hands - while you go out with joy. Unison Benediction May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors. Thank you for Worshiping with us today!
