November 20, 2022 Prelude Welcoming the Light of Christ and inviting the neighborhood to worship -Preparing our hearts and souls for worship Welcome and Announcements - Pastor * Call to Worship - “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” UMH #89 (verses 1&3) Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away. Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day! Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest, wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our brother, all who live in love are thine; teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine. *Responsive Reading - Liturgist, Psalm: 46 UMH Page 780 Response: A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing. Statement of Faith: The World Methodist Social Affirmation, UMH# 886 We believe in God, creator of the world and of all people; and in Jesus Christ, incarnate among us, who died and rose again; and in the Holy Spirit, present with us to guide, strengthen, and comfort. We believe ; God, help our unbelief. We rejoice in every sign of God's Kingdom; in the upholding of human dignity and community; in every expression of love, justice and reconciliation; in each act of self-giving on behalf of others; in the abundance of God's gifts entrusted to us that all may have enough; in all responsible use of the earth's resources. Glory be to God on high; and on earth, be peace . We confess our sin, individual and collective, by silence or action: through the violation of human dignity based on race, class, age, sex, nation, or faith; through the exploitation of people - because of greed and indifference - through the misuse of power - in personal, communal, national, and international life; - through the search for security - by those military and economic forces - that threaten human existence; - through the abuse of technology which endangers the earth and all life upon it. Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy . We commit ourselves individually and as a community to the way of Christ: to take up the cross; to seek abundant life for all humanity; to struggle for peace with justice and freedom; to risk ourselves in faith, hope, and love, praying that God's kingdom may come. The kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Amen . Scripture Reading - Liturgist Colossians 1: 11-20 Pew Bible – Page 1832 God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks be to God! Congregational Prayer and Lord’s Prayer Young People’s Moment - Pastor Hymn “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me” UMH #361 Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee; let the water and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure; save from wrath and make me pure. Not the labors of my hands can fulfill thy law's demands; could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow, all for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone. Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace; foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die. While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death, when I soar to worlds unknown, see thee on thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee. We Offer Our Gifts Offertory *Doxology “Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow” UMH #95 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. *Offering Prayer Message “Thanks to the Father” - Pastor *Hymn “Walk With Me” TFWS #2242 Chorus Walk with me, I will walk with you and build the land that God has planned where love shines through. When Moses heard the call of God he said, "Lord, don't send me." But God told Moses, "You're the one" to set my people free." Chorus Now Peter was a most unlikely man to lead the flock; but Jesus knew his holiness and he became the Rocki. Chorus Young Mary Magdalene was sure her life could be much more, and by her faith she dared to let God's love unlock the door. Chorus And when you share your faith with me and work for life made new, the witness of your faithfulness calls me to walk with you. Chorus *Benediction “Sent Forth by God’s Blessing” vs 1 UMH #664 Sent forth by God’s blessing, our true faith confessing, The people of God from this dwelling take leave. The service is ended, O now be extended the fruits of our worship in all who believe. The seed of the teaching, receptive souls reaching, Shall blossom in action for God and for all. God’s grace did invite us, and love shall unite us To work for God’s kingdom and answer the call. Postlude (Please be seated) - Symbolically taking the light into the World - Thank you for worshiping with us today!
