Welcome and Announcements

Interlude:
Welcoming the Light of Christ and inviting the neighborhood to worship.

*Call to Worship
Responsive Reading

Leader: Jesus Christ is our light, our vision and our sight. Our Lord is the way we are called to see life.
People: Until God’s kingdom comes, there will be darkness and with it blindness; but Christ’s victory is light for all his people.
Leader: We have come to worship and to receive that light for ourselves, that we might be filled with the light of Christ.
People: Let us worship the true light, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Unison Invocation
Gracious God, we thank you for your promise to be with us, and among us today as we worship
you in a spirit of humility and holiness. We invite you to be our ‘true mirror’ to hold up before us
your Word in such a way that we see our true selves. Help us also to see in a new way the fullness of your ineffable glory and transcendent grace and mercy. We await in the next hour your word to us, that by it we may be empowered to live in the world, announcing your rule of justice, reconciliation and peace. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Friend. Amen.

Hymn: “Be Thou My Vision”
UMH #451
Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
naught be all else to me, save that thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;
I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord;
thou and thou only, first in my heart,
great God of heaven, my treasure thou art.

Great God of heaven, my victory won,
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever be fall,
till be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Scripture Reading Psalm 19 & Isaiah 50: 4-9

God’s Word for God’s People. Thanks be to God!

Prayers of the People with the Lord’s Prayer

Offertory with Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Hymn: “We Are Called”
TFWS #2172 Vs 1
Refrain:
We are called to act with justice,
we are called to love tenderly,
we are called to serve one another,
to walk humbly with God!

Come! Live in the light!
Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord!
We are called
to be light for the kingdom,
to live in the freedom of the city of God!

(Repeat Refrain)

Sermon: ‘The Most Amazing Mirror’ James 1: 17-27

Closing Hymn: “Shine Jesus Shine”
TFWS #2173
Refrain:
Shine Jesus shine,
fill this land with the Father’s glory,
blaze, Spirit, blaze,
set our hearts on fire;
flow, river, flow,
flood the nations with grace and mercy,
send forth your word, Lord, and let there be light.

Lord, the light of your love is shining
in the midst of the darkness shining;
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us,
set us free by the truth you now bring us.
Shine on me, shine on me.

(Repeat Refrain)

Unison Benediction
May the peace of the Lord Jesus go with you
wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness,
protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing
at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
